Historic Power Plant and Substation in Oberursel
Zimmersmühlenweg 2 is among the most extraordinary listed industrial buildings in the Rhine-Main region. Erected in 1910 as a rectifier and substation for the Frankfurt local railway, the building was a vital part of the regional energy supply for many decades and later owned by Main-Kraftwerke. To this day, its striking industrial architecture, original Art Nouveau elements, and the historic overhead crane under the hall ceiling define the building’s unmistakable character.
Between 2004 and 2008, the building was extensively restored in close consultation with monument preservation authorities and carefully prepared for a new use. Today, the property is leased long-term as a high-quality gastronomy and event location, uniquely combining industrial historical heritage with contemporary use.
